Note. While I’m still recovering from my recent surgeries, I’ve operated on a meal system that includes a mixture of “quick heat ’em up” meals (i.e., frozen dinners, microwaveables), “girlfriend meals” (when Date Night stops by with some fresh-cooked food), and ordering from Uber Eats.
As I scrolled through Uber Eats last Sunday, I saw that the local Herbie’s Burger’s chain had just opened a restaurant in Troy, which would be close enough for an Uber Eats delivery. Okay. Let’s try this out. I ordered a single Herbie Burger, along with cut fries and something called “nerdy sauce” on the side (ostensibly this must be some sort of dipping sauce).
A few minutes later … my dinner arrived.
Holy shit this is good stuff. The burger had all the normal condiments, and was placed on a potato bread bun THAT WAS HINGED IN THE BACK OF THE SANDWICH. In other words … the top an bottom parts of the bun were connected in the back. Makes for easier handling and eating.
The fries were decent – I made the mistake of ordering them “fully loaded,” and the addition of cheese and fried onions was a bit overwhelming. That being said … the “nerdy sauce” (almost like McDonald’s Secret Sauce for Big Macs) was a welcome addition.
And apparently Herbie’s Burgers are the new fast menu option in the Capital Region. Check out these reviews.
Listen. Your mileage may vary, but I definitely enjoyed the Herbie Burger. And the next time I order the fries, I’ll just order them plain – with nerdy sauce on the side.
Besides … I need something to get me back to normalcy. And if it means adding a Herbie Burger to my usual menu … I’m good with that.

I’ve been to the Lark St location. They also have faux meat burgers, which aren’t bad, as those things go.
There’s also a location on Jay Street in Schenectady that I just discovered.

Chuck: Herbie’s has 4 locations, including 2 within blocks of each other in Albany (Lark St. & the Empire State Plaza), Schenectady, & Troy. I’ve dined there at Troy and Lark Street. Goof food, though a bit pricey, compared to the usual suspects.

I’m the odd man out. I almost got one once when I was in the Galleria7 food court thing. Ended up going with tacos because I’m not a big fan of potato rolls and burgers. Also not a fan of the guy the owns Martin’s potato rolls. Anyhow, that’s why I never mentioned it to you.
If they deliver to you, also in the same area of Troy is Nighthawks. Haven’t hard their burger but thought the fried chicken sandwich was really good. Burgers looked good. And the Birria tacos from La Capital Tacos is also very good.
